Update: Kamari Landis speaks to syracuse.com about his decision
Syracuse, N.Y. — Kamari Lands, a top 25 prospect in the 2022 class, has decommitted from the Syracuse men’s basketball program.
Lands, a 6-foot-8 senior who will spend his final high school basketball season at Hillcrest Prep, announced his decision to re-open his recruitment process Saturday on Twitter.
“I would like to thank Coach Boeheim, Coach Mac and Syracuse men’s basketball for everything they have done. And with that being said I will be reopening my recruitment,” Lands wrote.
Lands, rated four stars and 22nd in the country by ESPN, gave a verbal commitment to the Orange on April 6, becoming the first player in SU’s 2022 class.
Lands spent last season at Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, California, before recently transferring to Hillcrest Prep in Arizona. As a freshman and sophomore, he played at La Lumiere School near his hometown of Indianapolis.
His decision is a major blow to Syracuse. He was the centerpiece of the class, which also includes four-star forward Justin Taylor and three-star guard Quadir Copeland. Syracuse’s 2022 class ranked No. 5 in the country by 247Sports.com before Lands’ decision to decommit from the program.
Lands joins Oklahoma City Thunder forward Darius Bazely and five-star guard Dior Johnson as the most recent players to decommit from Syracuse.
