MINNEAPOLIS — The Golden Gopher Women’s Tennis team welcomes five newcomers for the 2021-22 season, including Vasia Karvouni, a transfer from the University of Kansas. Originally from Athens, Greece, Karvouni will enter this season as a junior for the Gophers. She shares with Gopher Sports why she decided to attend Minnesota, her life away from the court, and more.
Gopher Sports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Vasia Karvouni: I chose Minnesota because the coaches showed me a lot of interest and how much they care about me and my future. The University is very strong academically and I would love the chance to help this team to bring the best results possible.
GS: What field of Study are you in; why?
VK: I study Sport Management because sports are a passion of mine. I have been an athlete for many years, and I would like to know more about the business side of the industry. This would enable me to work within a sports organization or build a tennis academy in the future.

VK: I like playing soccer, chess, watching tv and going to movies at the cinema, as well as hanging out with friends.
GS: What is your family like?
VK: I am very close with my family, I am an only child and my parents are always very supportive and try to provide me with the best possible opportunities for my future.

VK: I used to play a lot of soccer in elementary school and on vacation. Generally I have tried a bit of everything because I love sports.
